《致死的疾病》（丹麥語：Sygdommen til Døden；英文：The sickness unto death）是丹麥思想家、哲學家、神學家克爾凱郭爾（Kierkegaard）( 香港譯作: 祁克果 )(用假名安提-克里馬庫斯（Anti-Climacus）發表的思想著作，於一八四九年七月三十日在丹麥哥本哈根出版。書中所說的「致死的疾病」喻指絕望，這本書系統的討論了自我、實現自我和絕望、信仰之間的關係。這本書不僅對喚醒人的自我意識，啟發人認識自我、成為自我有著重要意義，也對後世的存在主義思想有著深遠影響。

具體來說：
如果自我缺少有限性，人就會活在抽象或者想像之中。
如果自我缺少無限性，人就會局限在世俗狹小的範圍內，不敢成為自己，只能通過模仿別人來生活。
如果自我缺少必然性，人就會在諸多可能性中感到迷茫，陷入虛無，沒有歸宿感。
如果自我缺少可能性，人就會失去自由，成為宿命論或決定論者。
自我意識與絕望緊密相連，從自我意識程度上說，絕望有三種可能的形式：
沒有意識到深層次自我的存在，否認有一個深層次的自我存在（ being unconscious in despair of having a self ）。這種絕望並不是真正意義上的絕望，也是最沒有希望的絕望。
意識到了深層次自我的存在，但不願意成為那個深層次的自我。
否定那個深層次的自我是上帝建立的，要成為自己建立的那個深層次的自我。
在書的開篇，作者就對「我」做了定義: "我是把自我聯繫到自我的關聯 ( The self is a relation relates itself to itself )"
這句話中的第一個「自我」是指現實的、直接的、表層的自我（first
self），第二個「自我」指理想的、應該成為的、深層次的那個自我(deeper
self)。這句話中的「我」也不是一個靜態的狀態，而是一個表層的自我成為深層的自我的動態過程。「我」不能正確地從表層的自我關聯到理想的自我，這就
是絕望。安提-克里馬庫斯認為那個深層次的自我是純精神性的，是有限性和無限性，可能性和必然性的辯證統一。缺少任何一個元素，都是絕望。
